Alexander MacLaren > Quotes > Quotable Quote
“No unwelcome tasks become any the less unwelcome by putting them off till tomorrow. It is only when they are behind us and done, that we begin to find that there is a sweetness to be tasted afterwards, and that the remembrance of unwelcome duties unhesitatingly done is welcome and pleasant. Accomplished, they are full of blessing, and there is a smile on their faces as they leave us. Undone, they stand threatening and disturbing our tranquility, and hindering our communion with God. If there be lying before you any bit of work from which you shrink, go straight up to it, and do it at once. The only way to get rid of it is to do it.”
― Alexander MacLaren
When I read this it made me recall the following which I had posted on FB several years ago: “The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that’s when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it.” John C. Maxwell
I enjoy your blogs, just don’t always get them read the day you send them. I also enjoy your Sunday lessons and am grateful to receive them. I set my alarm so I don’t miss Sunday afternoon. I don’t see your Sunday morning ones anymore though; are you doing them differently?
Tell Paula hello and may the Lord continue to allow you to do His work for many years to come.
With fond memories of McAllen and Laurel Heights congregation, Elaine
