About the Jewish scribes and lawyers of Jesus time –

Many of them were satisfied with their works of the law and loyalty to unwritten human traditions while grossly incomplete in helping their neighbor.

They were exact in their tithing…

Legalistic in the way they worded their prayers…

Regarding all the feasts and synagogue gatherings: perfect attendance…

They called all their superiors by the correct titles…

They rebuked sinners with great vigor…

They shunned those they were taught to shun…

They praised those held in high esteem by their group…

Their ambition to curry favor and recruit followers was excellent …

Yet, the simple duties of kindness, generosity, serving the needy, and loving their neighbors – THESE THEY OUGHT TO HAVE DONE.
